從 un- 和 re- 開始
比較 happy 與 unhappy、read 與 reread。這裏 un- 帶出否定，re- 表示再做一次。請孩子用完整單詞造句，不只是指出字首。
比較 -ful 和 -less
Careful 與 careless 是有用的對比：小心的人輕放玻璃杯，粗心的人可能沒留意而把它碰倒。Helpful 與 helpless 也是一對，但仍需要完整例子理解。
留意詞性改變
Enjoy 是動詞、enjoyment 是名詞、enjoyable 是形容詞。比較 ‘We enjoy the game’、‘The game brings enjoyment’ 和 ‘It is an enjoyable game’。不能只機械式加字尾，拼法和自然用法也會改變。
知道線索何時不適用
不是所有以 re 開頭的詞都有 re- 字首。Read 不能拆成「再做 ad」。不要只因字母熟悉就拆詞；若猜出的意思不合情境，核對完整單詞。
